Role Objective
Responsible for managing the Establishment staff in the Business Area Unit (BAU) to make sure that the reforestation and maintenance programme is effectively planned and executed. Responsible for the productivity and health of our forests up to first thinning stage. Ensure that budgeting, financial management and forecasting of establishment operations is accurately carried out within the BAU. Deliver establishment operations in full compliance with all legislation, corporate guidelines and certification requirements. Contribute nationally to the development of improvement strategies for establishment operations and business processes.
Responsibilities
People, Leadership, Organisation and Culture
Create a culture of high performance and motivation in Establishment operations by empowering, developing and coaching people.
Hold regular open discussions on performance with Establishment staff in order to make sure all objectives are met.
Promote a commercial culture in Establishment operations where decisions are made with full consideration on maximising cashflow and long-term value.
Promote an attitude of simplification to reduce complexity and allow our people to do their best work.
Actively promote and prioritise a safe working environment for our people, our contractors and customers in the forest estate.
Contribute to the leadership of Establishment operations on a national basis to make sure that process improvement strategies are developed to improve quality, reduce cost, increase standardisation and implement streamlined business processes.
Be accountable for developing own contribution to the business which includes driving personal development initiatives.
As a member of the BAU Leadership Team, contribute effectively to the leadership of the BAU and the successful delivery of our strategy.
Act as a visible role model for the Group’s values.
Planning & Management
Ensure that effective Tactical and Operational Plans are in place to enable the BAU to efficiently carry out its Establishment operations by maximising the best use of resources.
BAU Establishment budgets are well aligned to the needs of the BAU and to the Coillte Forest strategy, and all financial analysis and forecasting is carried out accurately.
Meet all financial targets in line with the objectives of the business with a particular focus on Establishment costs.
Liaise with Establishment Process Team to prepare the annual Regeneration Plan to ensure that production areas and commercial species are maximised.
Liaise with the Procurement Team to prepare and implement a procurement plan for the BAU to ensure that there is sufficient capacity, competitive establishment rates and effective contractor development to fully meet the needs of the BAU.
Operations
Ensure that the cultivation, planting, maintenance, fertilisation and tending programmes are completed efficiently in the BAU.
Implement quality control systems in the BAU to ensure that Establishment operations are carried out to a high standard and deliver value for money.
Ensure that Establishment operations comply with Forest Certification Standards, Corporate Governance, Standard Operating Procedures, Codes of Practice and Forest Service Guidelines.
Drive a programme of continuous improvement with all Establishment contractors in order to improve the service that they provide to Coillte.
Ensure that Establishment staff in the BAU provide timely and accurate Field Data Capture information after all establishment operations.
Develop a strong culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement in all our forest operations to eliminate waste and inefficiency.

Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are effectively consulted about any Establishment operations.

Desired Technical/Professional Competencies
Education and Experience: Relevant qualification in Forestry or related discipline with at least three years’ experience working in a significant operations or equivalent role.
Commercial and Financial Acumen: Can focus on financial and commercial implications of their own activities through minimising costs and maximising revenues.
People Management: A credible individual with previous experience in managing people.
Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge and experience to promote a safe-working environment and ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory and silvicultural standards.
